The non-refundable administrative fee covers a portion of the many direct costs related to providing instruction and administrative and academic support services. Off-campus students receive various forms of assistance, such as library support, toll-free phone numbers, general guidance, network IDs and passwords, and support in coordinating with other campus units. In addition, a wide range of academic services are provided to the faculty and staff who teach Academic Outreach courses. Costs for supporting instruction and for developing and promoting new courses are also partially derived from tuition and fees. However, the Academic Outreach fee does not cover campus services such as insurance, transportation, etc.

More information about Tuition and Fees for Guided Individual Study.

Noncredit Tuition
Tuition for noncredit courses is determined by the academic department and Academic Outreach. Course costs are listed for each course in the Academic Outreach Course Catalog. Occasionally, a noncredit course will have two listed rates (a charge for regular students and a reduced rate for members of an identified company, agency, or organization). In these instances, the special instructions section of the course description will list both rates and identify the organization whose members qualify for the reduced rate.

Billing and Assessments
Advance Registration assessments are calculated and made available for viewing in the UI Integrate/Banner Web Self-Service system. Students who have submitted the appropriate paperwork in a timely manner will have their financial aid disbursement credited directly to their student account and reflected on their payment statement.
  • $15 Late Registration Fine is assessed for registrations submitted after the first day of on-campus instruction. The first day of instruction for upcoming semesters is available from the Office of Admissions and Records. This does not apply to registrations in NetMath, MTL, and GIS courses.
  • Paper statements are no longer being mailed effective December 1, 2004. Each month all students are notified via their official University e-mail account when their E-bill is available to view and print.
  • The University Student Financial Services and Cashier Operations (USFSCO) provides information on the electronic billing process; credit card and other payment options, procedures, and due dates; accessing electronic billing statements in UI-Integrate Self-Service System; late payment penalties, and much more. Students can also call the Office of Student Accounts and Cashiers toll-free at: 800-252-1360, extension 32180.
If your education at the University of Illinois is being supported by an outside agency, the University of Illinois Student Financial Services and Cashier Operations (USFSCO) can bill the agency directly. Outside agencies can be other schools, educational foundations, businesses, and governmental agencies. Please refer all questions to:

Refund Policies

Financial Aid
Although universities are not required to provide financial aid to students in distance education programs, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) administers financial aid programs to eligible applicants. Academic Outreach students in term-based courses must be admitted to a degree program and be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credit hours during the fall and spring semesters and three (3) credit hours during the summer semester.

Application deadlines may affect the kinds of aid you will be able to receive. Because so many variables are involved, it is necessary to go through the entire application process in order to know if you qualify for financial aid. These programs include federal, state and institutional aid for full- and part-time students who have been fully admitted to UIUC and who are currently enrolled. The following are OSFA requirements:
  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or an Eligible Non-citizen.
  • Male students, ages 18-25, must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You must have a High School Diploma or GED (high school equivalency) certificate.
  • You must be working towards a degree or certificate.
  • You may not be in default on any federal educational loans or owe a refund on a federal grant.
  • You must be making Satisfactory Academic Progress.
  • You must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Types of Financial Aid
Financial aid is available to eligible degree-seeking UIUC students; however, the types and amounts of aid and the eligibility criteria vary greatly.

Important deadline information
Review the deadlines and priority dates from the Office of Student Financial Aid.

Eligibility for Financial Aid
The Office of Student Financial Aid uses a formula for determining student eligibility for need-based financial aid that includes three components: estimated educational expenses, estimated family contribution, and financial need.

Conditions and Limitations of Financial Aid
In order to receive federal financial aid, you must maintain satisfactory academic progress toward a degree. State and institutional financial aid funds are also subject to this requirement.

Application for Financial Aid
Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Waivers, Grants and Other Benefits
To determine your eligibility for waivers, grants or benefits, contact the UIUC Office of Student Financial Aid.
