Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (MSME)


Program Description:

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign offers its Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (MSME) completely online. No campus visits are required. The MSME degree is very flexible, allowing you to choose from all courses offered online (except MATH 415) to complete degree requirements.  All students view the same lectures, and complete the same class assignments, exams, and projects as on-campus students. The degree earned through the online program is the same top-ranked degree awarded to on-campus students.

Admission Requirement(s):
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or the equivalent from an accredited college in the United States or an approved institution of higher learning abroad
- Minimum grade point average (GPA): 3.25/4.0 (or equivalent) for the last 60 semester hours (or last two years), or 90 quarter-hours of undergraduate study, and 3.50/4.0 (or equivalent) for previous graduate degree work
- Statement of purpose
- Official copies of transcripts for all completed university coursework
- Three letters of reference
- TOEFL exam scores (if applicable)

Individuals do not have to be admitted to a degree program in order to enroll in an online course. Only 12 credit hours of coursework completed prior to being admitted to the degree program can be transferred into the program.
