Illinois Courses Online - Online Self-Paced Undergraduate Courses

Program Description:

Welcome to Illinois Courses Online (ICON)! Previously known as Guided Individual Study (GIS), our program offers University of Illinois courses in a self-paced format, allowing you to take the courses you need when you need them. You can enroll in ICON self-paced courses that allow you to take your course anywhere at any time. Or you can choose from a semester-based or 8-week paced course—whatever fits your schedule!

ICON is for you if:

  • you need flexibility in your schedule
  • you are working full-time
  • you need a pre-requisite for another course
  • you are home for the summer
  • you are serving in the military
  • you are studying abroad
  • you need a course to complete a degree

Number of Required Campus Visits: Exams are taken in person, and there is a testing center at the U of I campus. However, students may use an approved proctor to take exams from their a location of their choosing.

Cohort (students take online semester-based courses as a group)
Open Enrollment (enroll anytime)

Total Number of Credit Hours: depends on the course

Tuition/Program Costs: $338 per undergraduate credit hour

Admission Requirement(s): University of Illinois students must have a Dean's approval to register. ICON will contact your college for this approval.

Admissions Deadline:  Students may enroll and start a course at any time.
