Program Profile

Master's of Education (Ed. M.) with Emphasis in Teaching Critical Thinking

Educational Policy Studies

Program Description:

This degree aims at giving educators better tools to teach critical thinking skills; and addresses the changing meaning of what “critical thinking” involves in today’s multimedia- and technologically oriented society. Currently the only program available in this area both within the state and nationally, this degree has some unique characteristics:

  • The program is delivered entirely online in order to provide wider access to these learning opportunities;
  • The courses are designed in relation to one another in order to give the overall program coherence and balance;
  • The courses take advantage of innovative technological and design features;
  • At least some of the courses will be available to both on-campus and online students. This “mixed” or hybrid model reflects the best of both traditional and e-learning.
  • Some four-hour courses will operate across semesters in a Part One/Part Two format. This structure will also allow for integration of program themes across semesters, and will also allow students to maintain a six-hour minimum enrollment for financial aid purposes.

Target audience:
This program is designed primarily for educators returning for advanced degrees and professional training. The emphasis is heavily on theoretically informed classroom practice. The courses will be open to other students, but a pedagogical orientation is central.

Delivery Method:
Face-to-face/Videoconferencing
Online
Self-paced/Asynchronous
