Students registering for GIS courses after 08/24/08 will have 6 months to complete their course.

GIS Course Tuition

Tuition is $240 per semester credit hour for all GIS courses. In addition to the tuition, the total cost includes a nonrefundable administrative fee of $41 per credit hour and a nonrefundable instructional support and materials fee of $30.

Payment for tuition and fees must be included with your enrollment form and can be made by check, money order, or credit card (VISA, Discover, or MasterCard). Checks and money orders should be made payable to the University of Illinois.

Note: U of I students cannot charge the GIS tuition and fees to their student account. Registration will not be processed until GIS receives your payment in full.

Tuition and fees schedules are subject to change.

Course Extensions

If you feel that you cannot complete the course in the nine-month course completion period, you may request a single, three-month extension. An extension requires a written request submitted seven business days prior to the end of your nine-month course completion period, an additional fee (of $100), and GIS approval. Send your written request and check (payable to the University of Illinois) or credit card information to Guided Individual Study, Academic Outreach, Office of Continuing Education, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 302 East John Street, Suite 1406, Champaign, Illinois 61820. Note that this additional fee is not covered by scholarships. Your request will be reviewed, and you will be notified. If your request is not approved, the fee will be refunded.

Course Transfers

Once enrolled in a GIS course, you are allowed to transfer only once to another GIS course and only if the transfer request is received within two months of your original enrollment date. A transfer fee of $20 will be assessed, and you will be charged $12 per lesson from the original course that you submitted to the GIS program. In addition, any difference in tuition charges must be paid. Refunds will not be given for lower tuition charges for the new course.

Textbooks and Course Materials

All GIS courses have required textbooks and/or course materials, the cost of which is not included in the total course cost. The cost of textbooks and materials is additional and ranges from $50 to $200 per course, with an average cost of approximately $95. Information about textbooks and course materials will be sent to you upon completion of enrollment.

Print-based and Internet-enhanced Course Postage Fees

For print-based and Internet-enhanced courses, the GIS program pays postage on lessons and materials sent to you. You are responsible, however, for postage to mail lessons and materials back to the GIS program. International students must pay a nonrefundable $35 airmail service postage fee for each print-based course. There are no additional fees for online courses. All fees must be in United States currency. International postage fees for print-based courses are waived for students currently serving in the United States Armed Forces.
